2 is a bonus disc, all the bonus discs are acceptable.

So, do I put all my stuff on hold, too?

Yes. I also have dozens of them, but only one is dumped (for test) - and _there is_ a reason for that, lol.

I won't until everyone agrees on how to make a perfect dump.
I am okay to spend several months to dump everything properly, but won't do it twice.
And I am not in a hurry anyway (PC Engine games are far from natural death).

Agree, the best solution for now.

Namida wrote:

I hoped that my contribution with dev manuals could help, but I got zero feedback.

Actually, we're focused on 1:1 dumping now, so the dev manuals won't be very helpful, I guess. I'll take a look, though.

Namida wrote:

Until we all together find a solution, I concentrate on NEC PC-88 and PC-98 floppy games (using KryoFlux).

What's about CDs for them? PC-88 has a 2 or 3 titles ("Mirrors" and something else), PC-98 has MANY.

Namida wrote:

The history of the PC Engine is linked to older NEC Systems, so it's important to backup them as much as more recent CD games.

And, I hope, PC-FX.

You've chosen the wrong forum for your question.

Dump the whole disc, then cut the proper bytes range. You need to skip the (1st_track_size_in_bytes + combined_offset_size_in_bytes) and cut the pregap_size_in_bytes (for 00:02:00 it's 352800 bytes).

Would it be safe to rip audio with no pregaps, then detect the pregaps with a different drive and prepend the pregap?

If the combined offset is positive, better dump it with clonecd and cut the pregap from there instead of generating it.

You have to check subcodes (clonecd ones are the best) and probably dumping it with a audio trap cd.

Nope, no trap cd is needed, just a game and a plextor, but subs are needed and not the clonecd ones, so each dump can take an hour or two.

Complete collection? Do you have Lords of Thunder - Demo Disc [DUO DEMO 02] and Magical Fantasy Adventure - Popful Mail - Sample Disc [HE4005]?

As for the dumping method - it's somewhat complicated for PCE CDs currently, (nothing impossible, though).

Torrent trackers are absolutely legal, they don't have any copyrighted data stored on the site (only the .torrent files with checksums), they're not against the law in most countries. So why do they have lawsuits so often? Trackers themselves, not only the users who seed or leech.

And again - do you really want to prove it in the court? smile

Maybe just need create section "About" in main page and write "We don't share dumps. We only collect info about discs"?

Who will believe in that, if there are "redump.org" torrents with our dumps? It's like MAME - they don't share the dumps, of course. But they collect money for a specific game via donations, send it to The Guru and voila! - the game is in MAME and shared everywhere. Your blonde gf will *maybe* believe these events aren't connected, but not the serious copyright guys.

The db is fine, of course. Theoretically. But everyone can be sued for participating in a group which _releases_ the images (similar to PC releasing groups, like Razor1911, etc.). And in any case, they can just sue the project, even if it's 100% legal by the current laws - but do you really want to prove it in the court?

The key point is that Audio/Video sections can draw too much attention from copyrighters. Of course, we're just a database, but all the torrent seeds with our dumps are "properly" named, so it's very risky. When copyrighters will see a torrent with lots of music or video, with a link to "redump.org" as a source, they will, most likely, try to sue and close us. Same for Wii/360/PS3 sections, btw, ir0b0t seems to be very brave to own the site and not to hide these sections, while living in a European country, which won't cope with any piracy, like China, Ukraine or Russia.

Isn't it a drive's issue?

I usually use Nero for all the old consoles.

velocity37 wrote:

Audio CDs don't have a disc offset, so only your drive's offset matters.

They do, we just unable to determine it. Basically, yes, you should dump it with your drive's offset, but it would be better to check the lead-in and lead-out areas, some non-zero bytes can present there, if so - tweak the offset value to include ALL the data.

F1ReB4LL -> Not sure on compatability of my drive with with Perfectrip - my LG drive can apparently overread into leadin & leadout but would a Plexator be preferential?

Plex is preferred, but having both overreads is enough for PR, it works with my external TEAC, for example.

I doubt the last track will be good with such drive... He should use PerfectRip - if it is really able to overread, PR should work.

Post 1 or 2 dumps in the forum and it will be added, same for any other missing system.

SS ones don't usually contain a file system (only links from the first mode1 track), so I don't think they can be affected. At least, I've already seen many and the dump always matches the dump from another drive.

Guess, you can try to extract all the sectors with cdtoimg_d8 and descramble them in software.

На MODE1/2352 попробуй поменять, MODE2 он всегда лепит, бага.
