8 tracks have incorrect gaps, subchannel is _heavily_ altered, gaps for tracks 5 and 7 are completely wrong, not the same bug as above. Dump was taken using the same version as before, also by GreyFox, but maybe you could take a look at the logs, whether it was fixed in the latest one or not?

The dump was by GreyFox, will ask him to test again. Same problem with http://redump.org/disc/29126/ (Track 16 pregap, the sector before EAN was altered), also was dumped by him.

Shouldn't it read all the sectors as is before fixing, without imagining things?

It's not hardcoded for plextors, it just needs both overreads and 0xD8 reading command support. There are non-Plextor drives matching these criterias and they should work.

The official title written by the publisher or developer can be used as a
reference including related titles from other media (movie titles). Some titles
also have an unusual capitalization on purpose. In that case, capitalization
should be left as intended.

Nothing about trademarks (which are usually in uppercase and can't be used as a title). SoulCalibur is an unusual capitalization on purpose, since it's a fictional word constructed from 2 standalone words, clearly visible on the title screen. You can leave 3rd part as Soulcalibur, if you want, but 1, 2 and 4 are SoulCalibur.

Is it possible to convert this symbol into a font symbol? Would be nice to make a custom font with symbols, similar to Wingdings.

SoulCalibur or SoulCalibuR (since the R on the title screen is definitely capitalized similar to WipEout).

Soulcalibur is incorrect.

https://www.sendspace.com/file/l5s307 -- this subdump version is suggested (mode 6 for plextors, mode 1 for the rest, but if non-Plextor drive is used, it's better to use swapping with cdda disc and set the leadout via -endaddr parameter). Modes 2 and 3 for plextors on earlier subdump versions are bad, since in this mode it only reads P and Q channels ignoring R-W in most cases.

No datfile (someone should waste half an hour to make an .xml datfile using your checksums from .xls), EAC log submitted from a suspicious drive (while you do have a good PX-760), no PR log, no DIC log (PR and DIC are way more trustful than EAC which generates certain pregaps instead of reading them and alters pregap sizes), no subchannels dump. Guess, there's no volunteers to take a responsibility to add this dump as good.

Subs are needed smile

Additionally, I think the mastering logo (e.g. DADC AUSTRIA, DADC, Sony DADC found on PAL games) should be in a separate field rather than mixed with the ringcode itself - some discs don't have a logo at all (notably PS3, and the blank top half of some PS2 discs, A0900555555-B511; sometimes it has a logo, other times not).

I've said this many times, since logos aren't a normal text and shouldn't be in the mastering ringcode part.

Honestly, the only reason I can think for why NEC would re-brand their CD-ROM format as the Super CD-ROM² is if it featured some kind of extra data protection or proprietary file structures that were superior to those found on standard CD-ROM technology.

Super CD-ROM² system cards have some additional RAM (CD-ROM² cards have only BIOS), so the games are more advanced. Arcade CD-ROM² cards have even more RAM. CD data format is the same.

As for the "why not regular ISO9660" - I've mentioned already, that CD-ROM² discs can be optimized for faster seeking using multiple data tracks + there can be an additional backup data track.

1,272

(5 replies, posted in General discussion)

Dunno, what to say about the formats. Many CDDA + many data tracks, like http://redump.org/disc/23664/ -- to optimize the seeking (like those dummy files on PS2 and DC discs to move the data to the edge of the disc). 2 data tracks -- http://redump.org/disc/18514/ -- last track is a backup in case the disc gets scratched or something. Sometimes only 1 data track -- http://redump.org/disc/16749/ (goes last), http://redump.org/disc/9957/ (goes second). Sometimes no audio tracks at all, only 1 data track - http://redump.org/disc/3039/. Game Express CD games have a completely different format (regular ISO9660, in fact - 1st track data with all the files visible, the rest are CDDA tracks). Latter homebrew\unlicensed Super CD-ROM² titles have interesting formats, but I don't have any of these physically, so can't say anything atm (they are close to Game Express CDs, afaik).

As for dumping nuances - CD-ROM² titles (green/blue side stripe) often have sub/TOC tracks addresses desyncs (point to different nearby sectors) -- http://redump.org/disc/2410/, so the subdump .sub is a must. Some discs contain empty sectors in data part - http://redump.org/disc/32499/. Pregaps are usually ECMA-130\yellowbook-compliant (at least 75 sectors in the same mode as the previous track, at least 150 sectors in the same mode as the next track, so the gaps between audio and data tracks are 3 secs long, 1st sec audio, 2 secs data), but sometimes are not - http://redump.org/disc/31791/.

Dunno about "CD-ROM²" name story, maybe, they wanted to point that it's so amazing that it's "squared" times better than usual CDs, lol.

Not sure about the last version, "Test(20140804)" is weird and takes 6-7 hours to dump a CD on 40x speed, previous ones were much, much faster. I can't test it properly, since it's hard to look at the screen for 7 hours to catch the C2 rereading moment.
