Anyone have any good idea's on how to dump these CD's?

They have invalid TOC and dummy files (700+MB).

I have a couple of EIDOS games with this, Thief - The Dark Project, and some other I don't remember at the moment.

Is there some raw way to rip an image without taking my hardware apart for people to examine?

I do have a plextor CDRW if there is a tool for it which can do the job.

Nexy you can post the subchannel data here and let somebody determine the correct gap length for the first.

Yup sure, I don't use rapidshare or crap however... and it's too big to post here, so dunno how to do that.

The Audio tracks are just dummy tracks containing only silence however.

Dunno about the 2nd data track, if it has any useful data in it, or is just crap... you decide.

I uploaded my subs in this thread, I don't know if somebody checked them.

I've been examining this disc, and here are my findings.

the TOC is perfectly valid. The ISO directory is invalid. The 2 audio tracks and the 2nd data track are there to mess up bin/cue copying and to fill the disc up to the last possible sector. The 2nd data track contains a copy of the ISO header, and some sectors later, has pointers listed for the invalid files contained in the invalid ISO directory. This 2nd data track can/would be used to check if the disc is an original or copy, as most normal copy software would fail to either copy it, or bin/cue does not support data tracks after audio tracks and therefore any check for the existence of this data will fail. It will work just fine with clonecd or alcohol image formats.

The audio tracks contain only silence (00) and as I said are just there to fill up the disc IMO.

I think "illegal TOC" is being used incorrectly here; long ago, some people started using that term to refer to discs with more than one data track, but that's actually within the standards, and the BIN/CUE format should be more than enough to make a full dump (just like in the PC Engine games).

well it goes

DATA TRACK
AUDIO TRACK
AUDIO TRACK
DATA TRACK

bin/cue doesn't support this, just like CD Extra.

Tomb Raider III is listed as having Illegal TOC on some copy protection web sites (don't remember which ones as I saw this a long time ago). My guess is the reason why it was considered Illegal was because disc copying software at the time this copy protection was released was unable to handle ripping the second data track. These days disc copy software gets around this issue by raw ripping the disc even when it's only ripping a single track at a time.

[EDIT]
Also bin/cue does support this as I've run my own image of Tomb Raider III from the bin/cue dump I've made of it. It might not have with virtual drives back then but now it's no problem for them.

CD Extra is multisession, that's why the BIN/CUE format can't be used with it. In this case we are dealing with only one session with multiple data tracks inside, and that's fully supported by the CUE format.

Okidoki, shouldn't be a problem then.

A question about cdlock, where is the pregap of the data track (track 4) goes? to the begining of it?

yes ghosty, (pre) means before  wink

Yes but what I mean is that you have to manualy add a bunch of 00s in the beginning of the data track?

Depends on whats recorded in the subs, so it would be better to examine them.

When you know the exact pregap length you can go back in isobuster and when there are data sectors you have to extract them first and add to the track.

Also, it could happen that there is a mixed pregap of audio and data sectors.

Will have to make a little guide for this. I think there is a workable system for doing it, I have to thank fireball and ir0b0t for checking the subs and helping me out with it.

I'll try to put together an addendum for the dumping guide, just for this protection. Problem is I don't know how to analyze subs properly yet. If there was a good tool for it released soon it would help.

A combination of ISOBuster, EAC, cdtoimg, descramble_CDDA, a calculator and a hex editor is needed to do it.

I dumped again with the LG, the first subs are from the plextor. It gave some errors in track3, the cd is slighly scratched. I dont know how important might that be. And the cd is uk.

okay, same pregap lengths here also.

when you can extract track4 pregap without errors in isobuster, then its fine and can be easily done.

so, its an US disc then?

ok so eac gave me right pregaps, cool. how i exctract track4 pregap? if its hard talk to me in irc. and the disc UK  roll

OK thanks for the help and btw you need to fix that error about properly adding minutes in cues.

So, I got a disc with real dummy files. Two of the data files fill up about the entire CD. The audio tracks are legit and dumped correctly. EAC and PF one correspond. How would I go about with dumping the data track?I get inconsistent results with DDump. Can I use ISObuster instead? (replace sectors with zeroes?)
