It's in relation to Dreamcast stuff.  Any CDs for that platform need to have two sessions to perform correctly.

I was looking at Bleemcast in particular, where an emulator and game can co-exist on the same disc if you burn a PSX image first, leave an open session on it, and then burn the other session (with the Bleemcast binary) on it.

For the record, I tried Alcohol and that seems to do the trick. smile  It may be naff when it comes to dumping CDs with pregap data in them but then I can just see this as a good burning tool instead.  Of course, if there *are* any other programs out there which do the same thing, then it'd be interesting to know just in case any prove that Alcohol isn't all that important for anything at all.  Thanks!

As for Nero, sure, it can multisession, but only with new discs you make/burn yourself, not with existing images.

Erm, no it doesn't.  On either count.

I'm not sure what CloneCD you're thinking of, but if you were referring to SlySoft's program then I've tried that and it doesn't have any multisession options or support for BIN/CUE, only CCD/IMG/SUB.

Gonna try and see if Alcohol is any better...

Does it give you the option to open a new session after burning a CD image?  In fact, does it support BIN/CUE?

* Support SATA drives
* Support multisession
* Support BIN/CUE images

Numerous programs I've tried fail to include at least one of the above.  CDRWin doesn't want to use my SATA drive for burning, ImgBurn astonishingly enough can't do multiple sessions at all, CDBurnerXP only supports the ISO format, Nero 10 can't multisession etc etc etc.

I'm thinking mainly GUI-based programs here.  If it helps I'm using XP SP3 32-bit.  Thanks.

Now see, I always find Nero's strong point to be in its data backup abilities - I only ever use it to back up stuff onto DVDs.

It doesn't seem to me like it's as dedicated a cd-image burner as ones more geared towards it like ImgBurn, CDRWin etc.

Looking up information on Goldenhawk through the web I've read stuff like how they supposedly shut up shop a year or two back, killed their e-mail addresses and allowed a plastic surgeon to take over the phone number.  Yet CDRWin got updated earlier this year after a two-year silence.  So I'm not sure what's going on.

I've always been of the opinion that (Goldenhawk's) CDRWin can do no wrong when it comes to burning BIN/CUE images.  I recall adopting it a few years ago after noticing it burned Neo Geo CD games a lot better than other programs like Alcohol and Nero (both of which would affect the audio one way or another), having learnt this via a comparison test.

However, I recently noticed that it seems to not support SATA disc drives (or at least not my Samsung, which I purchased quite recently), despite being updated as recently as May of this year.  Luckily I also have an IDE burner installed in my system, but I wonder if this is a sign that - as SATA gradually makes IDE obsolete - this program will soon no longer serve a purpose to most modern day users?  Attempting to contact Goldenhawk through the one e-mail addy displayed on their website resulted in a bounced email.

I occasionally use ImgBurn to burn images, but I'm not sure if this really burn at as a good a quality as CDRWin, having not performed a comparison test to date.  Though it at least supports SATA.

What do you think?

As in.... when I have a Redump game set (BINs and CUE), I wish to be able to cut out the silence bits at the start of every file with a pregap in them.

I know that the Resize tool can usually do wonders... it's just a shame that it can only crop/cut data off of the end of a file, not the beginning.

Is there another similar program out there that can remove X bytes from the start?  It's just I wish to be able to use the music tracks for general listening purposes without having to re-rip them from a burnt/mounted disc.

Thanks.

better to use cdmage and load the cue sheet, and save the image to a different directory.

This turned out to work better than the method suggested by RocknRoms - cheers for that. big_smile

The problem with EAC is that when creating a cuesheet based on "Current Gap Settings" it lists the tracks as if they were seperate WAV files, rather than referencing start points and pregaps within a BIN file.

The new BIN CDMage creates thankfully matches exactly with a BIN created through the "copy /b" method in CRC32, MD5 etc hashes.

I'm aware that combining all the tracks of a Redumped title is as simple as using "copy /b", but how easy would it be to determine the correct positions of said tracks afterwards so that you can adjust the cuesheet accordingly and it'll still remain accurate?

Did try googling around for information, but it seems nobody's said anything or given out a dummies' guide.  So any help round here is muchly appreciated. :-)  Thanks!

Actually I meant "add to and take away from" rather than "left and right", but thanks for the tip nonetheless.

Sounds good indeed.  Although it would be fun still to generally have a tool which allowed you to resize a file in both directions (add, take away).  ReMove sounds like it can only do the latter, as much as it can help in terms of redump's guide.

Thought I'd mention that it seems my current installation of avast! Antivirus on XP is claiming the little resize tool - available on this website - to include malware.

It reports it as "Other:Malware-gen".  I know it's a harmless program of course, but it's rather annoying to have to temporarily switch off my virus protection everytime I want to use it.  Seeing as there's very little info on the program itself, I wouldn't be able to report much about it when informing the avast! team about it, but I'll give it a try nevertheless.

I was wondering however, whether it would be relatively easy to code a new tool with a similar purpose, which doesn't attract the ire of random antivirus scanners?

First off, hello to everyone on this forum!  I hope to contribute some dumps of my own at some point.

However, I was hoping to use the pictures in the CD dumping guide as a useful visual aid in doing everything correctly, and it seems they don't currently exist on the server they're hosted on.  Indeed, I think it's a domain issue, seeing as the psxt001z link doesn't work, and neither does the 'dctools' link in the GD-ROM thread.

It's possible that this is knowledge already, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.  Did anyone save a backup of the full guide complete with pictures by any chance?

Thanks.
