You're welcome. It's great to know it worked.

Thanks. Apparently, the file that is covered by that sector is "Filt.ll_". I could be wrong, tho. Can you add it first in the ReadErrorProtect.txt file, start the dumping process using the flags mentioned earlier and post what message pops up in the console?

Scirvir wrote:

Welp after 3 hours CloneCD just ran thru the disc from 590272 to 3266880 (almost the end of the disc) in just a few minutes, all sectors in between giving read errors.

Oh... That seems quite a lot. In this case, I would suggest skipping 1000 sectors (/sk 1000). If I'm not mistaken, once it finds a sector without errors it should go back until it finds a sector that cannot be dumped. Please, post full logs if the file mentioned above was the correct one.

I've started a new dump with CloneCD with TonyLizard's suggested settings. Before i thought it was hanging cause read speed was at 0kbps for a long long while but it turns out it's still working, but stays at certain problematic sectors (thought not all of them) for almost 1 hour and a half. So i'll let it sit there and hope for the best.

I got two drives and two copies of the game so might as well try Lugamo's method. What should I be looking for on the _volDesc.txt ? The last file that has a "FullPath" entry? The end of the file is a LBA File Entry that looks like this.

[...]

Any info from this block that i can use? I'll attach the full log in  case there's something i dont know to look for.

Thanks to both for your help.

Which is the first sector with errors? Which is the range of errors that CloneCD returned?

The -647 offset should be accurate, according to the wiki.

http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title= … de#SecuROM

Discs with 99 SecuROM sectors dumped by DIC may have an erroneous offset of -59 reported initially in _disc.txt, followed by the correct offset of -647. Any PC disc with reported offset -59 should be carefully checked as a result.

Really? That's odd.

Dumping ringed DVDs with DiscImageCreator is somewhat complex, but feasible in my experience. The method I personally use is the following:

  • Start a normal dump and stop it once it starts to fail.

  • Once you get the first LBA with errors (it differs in every disc), you have to find the specific file tied to it.  In order to find the appropiate file, you can use the *_volDesc.txt file from your ill-fated DiscImageCreator dump, or use IsoBuster (the free version will work just fine).

  • Once you find the file, you need to add its name to the "ReadErrorProtect.txt" file. It's very important for the file you think it's the first one to have errors to be first on the list.

  • Start a new dump with the following flags: /rr X /sf /sk Y. X is the amount of retries (I suggest 20 or 30) you want DiscImageCreator to do before it skips the amount of sectors specified in Y (which should be the amount of sectors you think the ring may cover —which I usually find with CloneCD and Alcohol 120%, which aren't a viable option in this case— plus 100 or more sectors, just to be safe, DiscImageCreator will skip the amount of specified sectors until it finds a good one, then it will read in reverse until it finds another sector which fails the amount of re-reads you've specified and then it will continue reading forward). Once a new dump starts, a message in the console along the lines of "Detected protection [File] LBA * to *" should pop-up. If the first sectors with errors is NOT in that range, you picked the wrong file, and it WILL produce a bad dump.

I complemented this with a CloneCD dump refined with CDArchive while dumping Patrician III: Imperio de los Mares, with both matching.

Thanks for the reply.

I've recently found a Spanish-language edition of the obscure multimedia CD-ROM for Windows 3.x by Epic Multimedia & Time Warner Interactive based on Thumbelina (more specifically the 1994 Don Bluth film). It features the cast of the Latin American Spanish dub of the actual film, but the songs are only in English for some reason.
It has three games, a painting game [krnl386_001.png] (after you finish painting the illustration, you can see it moving), a word association game [krnl386_005.png] (you are given some words describing things in a picture, and you have to drag them so they point to the right place), and a very basic puzzle [krnl386_007.png]. Not all pages are interactive. It's very similar in structure to the Living Books series, but with even less interactivity.

Here's footage of the English version of this CD-ROM:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrZ3Pn92wBY

And here's a picture of the disc label of the American release:
https://www.deviantart.com/mileymouse10 … -614433875

It should be noted than this Spanish release has the same serial number but with a "-SA" suffix, which likely indicates a South American release.

It's apparently identical in content to the Philips CD-i disc that can be found in the database here, if the sources I've found are accurate. I doubt this is relevant, but I felt it was at least worth mentioning it.

If I'm not mistaken, the second one (which is exclusive to Redumper CD dumps) is meant to be useful for Redump mods because it counts the C2 errors a dump has that are not part of a copy protection. Here's the GitHub issue that caused that addition.

Hi,
There's no limit for number of retries. I usually specified 10 retries not to hammer the drive much...

I was interested in a minimum because the ring covers 29K sectors. I settled for 3 retries, which I hope is enough. So far, the last sector re-read (in reverse) was 486603, once I'm done I'm submitting the dump.

Redump does not take CD-keys. The serial for the manual (which seems to be 300020796) is useful, however. You may also specify the region of this specific release, even if in the database still figures Europe.

Based on the scans you've provided, the submission information for the first disc should probably include:

    Disc Serial: 30020792

Data Side Mastering Code (laser branded/etched): sonopress<tab>51342491/5003734<tab>S<tab>21
Data Side Mastering SID Code: IFPI LB47

    Comments:

[T:UID] 300020788 (Cover), 300020796 (Manual)

UID is the site code for Ubisoft ID. You can find the special site codes here.

The distance between the "5003734" and the "S" is the same between the "S" and the "21", in my opinion. Given that a Mould SID appears in the scan of the second disc (IFPI 07S4), but not the first one, I'm going to suppose that it does not have it, which is also the case of another disc already present in the database.

Just in case, this disc is a verification of this entry, and once you're ready to submit it, you should do so via the Verifications forum, linking the entry with which your disc image matches.

I am ashamed to say this, but until I read this post, I thought that CDArchive was to be used on its own to dump ring-protected DVD games, given that it is the only program mentioned in the DVD section of the article.
I dumped Patrician III: El imperio de los mares with CloneCD and DiscImageCreator, and in general terms the range of the ring seems to cover the sectors 478738-508447.
The original CloneCD image did not have anything between the sectors 478720-478737 and 508448-508480. I got the missing sectors with CDArchive that will be attached to this post. DiscImageCreator did obtain data for those sectors, however. Should I re-read the 478738-508447 sectors? How many retries should I do?

I've added the comment that says that there was an Encarta evaluation disc also bundled but it's not being added to the database.

Understood, thanks.

Hi Lugamo good question. The rule was decided specifically for VCD format after deliberating with mods on the rules in a huddle, so I don't want to speak broadly about this contingency for other systems without mod agreement.

My suggestion is to submit both discs and note in the comments that the non-game disc was bundled with the game disc. This will encourage mods to come to a decision.

OK, thanks for the reply. I will submit them as soon as I can.

Another release, but the question is very much the same, and this time there is elegible content beyond any doubt. I recently acquired a Billiken Compu release with two discs. One of them has BHunter, and the other disc has an (expired by now) evaluation for Microsoft Encarta 2001. Are both discs elegible for Redump or just the first one? Photograph attached.

I finally checked them, and I could not find anything that it is a step above in "gaming-ness" than the included mini-games in the bonus enhanced CD of The Blue Cat Club.

When dumped with DiscImageCreator, it does not produce a CATALOG in the cuesheet. When dumped with redumper, it does. Which one is correct?

DIC logs: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tBKDvZ … sp=sharing

Between 20240101 and 20240401 DiscImageCreator changed how it creates .cue files from being based on subchannel information to being based on the TOC (more context in this issue). Those logs were made with 20230606, does this happen with the latest stable version?

Yes, you have to use the command line interface:

http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title= … _(DIC_CLI)

http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title= … _(DIC_CLI)

http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title= … umper_CLI)

Additionally, make sure that your logs include the list of files mentioned here:

http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title= … g_database

I recently bought a set of state-sponsored CDs made for schools without a good Internet connection [For more info (in Spanish): source 1, source 2 -the set has 9 discs, tho-]. I haven't checked the contents of the discs themselves due to a lack of time, but apparently some discs have games according to the box, and the sources mentioned before. My question is: if one of them has Redump-elegible content, does that mean that all the discs in the set are elegible too? I ask because of one item in the Video CD Moderation Guide article in the wiki:

Bonus or bundled discs which are not game related, but another disc in the set is qualified for Redump entry.

I know it's a different platform, but I thought that it could apply to PC discs too. But I'm not completely sure, reason why I'm making this thread.

Dumping this disc has matching results between DiscImageCreator and Redumper, but DiscImageCreator throws 75 errors for some reason, whereas Redumper does not. Do you know what could have caused this behaviour? It's nothing important, since it's a correct dump, it's just curiosity.

reentrant wrote:

Maybe you forgot to set corect current directory? 2 - error file not found.

Indeed, I did. I forgot to include the folder "ISO". I can't believe I've made such a basic mistake.
The new command being:

CDArchive.exe --mode=ext --extrdiscmode=dvd --extrdrive=F --extrsectdir="I:\CDArchive\ISO\SH5" --extrstart=461733 --extrend=493055 --extrrefcue="I:\CDArchive\ISO\SH5\SH5.cue"

However, this did not work, and I still get the same error.

reentrant wrote:

I'd also select different directory for extracted sectors...

Is enough to extract them in a different folder outside of "I:\CDArchive" within the I:\ partition or it would be better to have them extracted in a different partition or hard disk?

Edit: Tried three options ["I:\ISO\SH5\SH5.cue", "M:\ISO\SH5\SH5.cue" (different partition, same disk), "J:\ISO\SH5\SH5.cue" (different partition and disk)], neither worked out.

I have been trying to dump Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper, which according to Alcohol 120% has ring protection between the sectors 461733 and 493055. Thanks to (I think) a tutorial to fix the "This app has been blocked for your protection" error, now CDArchive no longer flashes.
I tried using the following command:

CDArchive.exe --mode=ext --extrdiscmode=dvd --extrdrive=F --extrsectdir="I:\CDArchive\SH5" --extrstart=461733 --extrend=493055 --extrrefcue="I:\CDArchive\SH5\SH5.cue"

The .cue file has this format:

FILE "SH5.ISO" BINARY
 TRACK 01 MODE3/2048
   INDEX 01 00:00:0

However, I still get the following error:

Error extracting sectors: 2

What can I do?

For the record, you can use pretty much any DVD drive to dump (most) DVD games. OG Xbox games are an exception.

http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title= … 2F_DVD-ROM

DVD-Video and DVD-ROM dumping is supported with virtually ANY drive that supports the DVD format. For your first dump/submission, please dump twice to verify matching hashes for any potentially misbehaving DVD-ROM drives.

You're very much right about CDs, though.
