Topic: XBOX (1) dumping

Tools needed:

- A (soft)modded xbox with dvd2xbox 0.7.8 installed.
- A DVD drive and disc that can be used to swap and extract the video partition
- IsoBuster
- Startstop.exe

Instructions:

- Make sure that dvd2xbox uses the following settings: 'Enable ACL processing: No' and 'Enable Logfile: Yes'
- Use the ISO ripper mode to extract the game to your xbox hdd or Samba shared folder. The tool will create 2 .iso files.
- When both .iso files are transferred to your pc, use an ftp client to grab the logfile from the dvd2xbox /logs/  folder.

When you have the 2 .iso parts and the .log file, then we're ready to dump the video partition on the first layer using a PC DVD drive and IsoBuster:

- Insert a movie or game DVD into the drive.
- use 'startstop.exe driveletter 1' to stop the drive motor.
- use a pin to press the escape eject button, so the tray will eject (or remove the drive cover).. insert the xbox DVD and gently push the tray back (or put the drive cover back on).
- Now launch IsoBuster. Right click on Track 01 and select 'Extract From-To'. Set 'End Address (LBA)' to 198143 and leave 'Start Address (LBA)' at 0.
- Save the file as '0video.iso' and put it in the same folder as the other 2 .iso parts.

When all 3 parts are dumped, it's time to combine them. Launch Command Prompt, go to the folder which contains the 3 .iso parts and use the 'copy /b *.iso game.iso' command to copy the parts to a single file (the 0video.iso part should be first).

When it's done, the newly created .iso file should be exactly 7433027584 bytes in size. Use your favourite checksum tool to obtain the crc32/md5/sha1 hashes and you're ready to submit the dump (don't forget to upload the dvd2xbox .log file somewhere when posting the dump details... and please also include the ringcode)!

Some technical side info:

Layer0 size = 1913776 sectors / 3919413248 bytes (first 198144 sectors / 405798912 bytes is video partition followed by 3513614336 game partition).
Layer1 size = 1715632 sectors / 3513614336 (game partition).
Full image is 7.433.027.584 bytes (or 3629408 sectors).

Each disc contains 16 security placeholders of 4096 sectors each. This data is zeroed in the dump.

A common CRC32 for the video partition of ALL regions (NTSC/PAL) games is AE27FFB3!

modded or softmodded?

You can use any modding method as long as it allows dvd2xbox to be run (I used the hotswapping method myself).

Btw, the dvd2xbox sources are also available for download: http://dvd2xbox.xbox-scene.com/src_download.html, so I hope that eventually someone will create a pc version of the dumping tool.

Re: XBOX (1) dumping

You do the stop command after you inserted the trap disc the normal way.. as soon as the drive recognized it and it's waiting to slow down, then you can use the stop command... at that point you can (a) press the escape eject pin to open the tray or (b) take off the drive cover to swap the discs and then (a) push back the tray or (b) put the cover back on.. At this point you can launch IsoBuster, so there's no need to do it before.. if your drive supports swapping then it should work... if it doesn't then it's probably best if you try another drive.
