Topic: [FIXED][IBM] MoH:AA + Sims Makin Magic Disc 1 + Jedi Academy

The Sims: Makin' Magic (Expansion Pack) (Disc 1)
http://redump.org/disc/40732/

I originally only dumped this with CloneCD on both my drives, can't remember why. I redumped it with DIC and /rc:

DiscImageCreator cd F: I:\Redump temp\THESIMSEP7 2017-02-25_12-59-29 PX\THESIMSEP7 2017-02-25_12-59-29 8 /c2 /rc

And got the same hash d92ebece.

Does using or not using /rc alter the image? What indicates that /rc might not have been used?

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (Disc 1)

DiscImageCreator cd F: I:\Redump temp\MOHAA_DISK1 2017-02-16_10-16-50 PX\MOHAA_DISK1 2017-02-16_10-16-50 72 /c2 1024 4096 8 /rc

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (Disc 2)

http://redump.org/disc/40739/

DiscImageCreator cd F: I:\Redump temp\MOHAA_DISK2 2017-02-16_11-49-45 PX\MOHAA_DISK2 2017-02-16_11-49-45 72 /c2 1024 4096 8 /rc

Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (Disc 1)

How'd you know there'd be an error in CDMage? big_smile

This does show 1 error in CDMage, but 0 in edccchk. Should I be checking all my discs in CDMage and edccchk, and report the CDMage errors in the Comments section? Or in the edccchk error count section? I've been only using the DIC error report.

/rc causes the sector with invalid Header, EDC or ECC to be replaced with 0x55. Without it you might end up with garbled sectors (which btw can be fixed with custom EdcEcc version). It's for protected discs only...

I didn't realize that. Thanks, and thanks for adding the fixes.

I always dump with /rc just in case. But you must be sure whether errorneous sectors belong to the protection or are just bad...

Doesn't that mean it's unsafe to dump unprotected discs with /rc?

Re: [FIXED][IBM] MoH:AA + Sims Makin Magic Disc 1 + Jedi Academy

It depends what do you mean by saying 'unsafe'. No one should submit a disc with errors and with /rc you risk a bad sector to be replaced with 0x55 pattern thus making that sector a 'valid' one.

For example with SafeDisc you usually have ~600 corrupted sectors near the beginning of the disc, and if your disc is severely scratched and another error occurs inside that area it will be mistakenly treated as good 'bad'. That's the problem with /rc.

Also without /rc some protected discs seem to dump forever wink
