I fail to see the difference between faking a read from 50000, or trying to dump a different section then going back to the section with a read error (which is what it does currently). It doesn't matter if there are read errors, as long as any two times it gets dumped with the same hash (after the match it doesn't try again). However I can implement it if it is necessary, and I can see how it may be if there is one section left which errors, as there is nothing left to jog it.

If it says initial dump, it read the section for the first time, hash stored. Nothing to compare against so it may have been read wrong.
If it says read error, the read error has been caught, hash not stored. Likely it errored in the same way CDRWin wouldn't start to read anything. Not a major problem.
If it says match, the read just done matches one of the previous successful reads. Rejoice etc
If it says non-match, it was read, and there were previous reads, but the current read doesn't match any of the previous. All or all but one of the reads so far have errors.

How about reading from start to finish, then from finish to start? I assume the big jump from end to start may screw it up sometimes atm, this way may be more gentle and have the desired effect.

Ok, new version (0.2a) which adds the ability to change some options. If resuming from a previous dump, don't change the commandline options from what they were (as it may not resume or clean up files if options result in different sections to original options).

Usage: DCdumper.exe #:#:# drive_letter [options]

@Pikmin
I was talking about ddump, the program to dump safedisc discs. I'll rename to DCdumper to avoid confusion.

@tossEAC
Try the new version with option -c400000. Also, if it gets to the end of execution and hasn't dumped everything, there's no need to delete anything (unless it ended badly and didn't write a file properly). The program will resume where it left off.

-c400000 should also be used by "Lite-On SOHD-167T", to avoid the LBA errors.

@tossEAC
Try what Pikmin says, vcredist_x86.exe. Google "visual c++ runtime" incase your computer needs a slightly different version. Beyond that, it should have everything (just startstop.exe and akrip32.dll in same directory as DCDump.exe). Works on xp sp3, haven't tested with anything else.

As for using:

  • Run ddump.exe with no parameters to get a list of all your devices. Find your dreamcast dumping device, and note the #:#:#

  • Also get the drive letter of your device

  • Then follow the dreamcast guide until it says use CDRWin, and instead use DCDump with parameters
    DCDump.exe #:#:# drive_letter

For example my drive is 0:0:0 with drive letter d so the commandline would be
DCDump.exe 0:0:0 d

It will then start dumping the disc in sections, you'll see it says what it's doing. The dump and temp files get saved to the same directory as the program.

@amarok
The program exits before using the drive letter so it isn't the current problem, but for future reference.

CloneCD, Alcohol and Isobuster are commercial grade programs, that need to be robust and work everywhere with everything. They probably have profiles to work well in every situation. It's wishful thinking to expect homemade programs to have the same level of robustness. The main problem here seems to be that you can't find a usb device with #:#:# without some extra steps. If I can't get it to work, maybe when source is available someone else can.

@Pikmin
Read errors for every read attempt, no successes at all? If there is a successful partial read you should see " - Initial dump" or " - Match: ...". Yes please try more tests, thank you smile

Thank you both.

@iRobot: I'll make a switch or check a device string to read the last bit in a big lump on the lite-on.

@amarok
Try just 'j', the second parameter is treated as a single character and passed to startstop.exe. Not handled very well at all, just a quick workaround until I can get to grips with windows api, and just use #:#:# OR drive letter.

If ddump doesn't work I doubt this will be any different, sorry. The usb probably is the problem. I'll look into getting usb drives working, probably over my head for now though.

If by do it like isobuster you mean work with your drive, it might be possible. If you mean the way it dumps or does something, let me know the difference.

The SH-D162D might work with partial reads past that point. The program does try reading sector ranges a lot, and the way it cycles through the sections every pass seems to help. If it's like the lite-on though, I'll handle it the same way.

Here's a work in progress commandline alternative to CDRWIN, specific to dumping dreamcast games. Do the trap disc as normal then use this instead. The main benefit is it reads in ranges, and if a read error is encountered it retries. Tries to avoid manual partial sector range hell wink

Features:
+ Dumps in sections to avoid redumping good sections later
+ Redumps sections until there's a match (thus the section is deemed good) or after certain number of passes
+ Detects if sections are already written to file and doesn't try to read those sections again (resume skip)
+ Saves read hashes to file, for matching sections from different program executions (resume pickup)
+ When it is deemed that all sections are dumped correctly, creates dense.bin as the input for ice.exe

Usage: DCdumper.exe drive_letter [options]

[options]
-h      - This help.

-c# - Cut-off: After which disc is dumped in one lump instead of sections
          Min: 44990 (all at once) Max: 549150 (no cut-off) Default: 549150

-dt -df - Delete temporary files: Delete sections and hashes after creating dense.bin
          Default true

-ft -ff - Fake reads: Fake read nearby to try and kick program out of read errors
          Default true

-i# - Set number of sectors per section

-st -sf - Step back: Fake reads after a pass to step to beginning
          Default: true

-t# - Reread attempts: Max number of re-read attempts on a read error
          Min: 0  Max: 20  Default: 3

If using a "Lite-On SOHD-167T", use option -c400000 (may help with many other drives too).

Please test with existing dumps and report what happens, send the log file if possible. If it creates dense.bin, run it through ice.exe and see if dense.bin is valid (and output tracks match redump). If you can't get it to dump at all, let me know your machine, optical drive, os and anything else you think is relevant.

Suggestions and feedback welcome.

Any recommendations for a commandline replacement for cdrwin? Something that can take its place dumping scrambled sector ranges. That way you could get the image in multiple sector ranges with a batch file and stitch it together. Read errors wouldn't be so painful then.

It seems like the commandline cdrwin tools are able to do the job (in particular, CDCLIP.EXE), but you need to pay for it.

http://redump.org/disc/19983/

(Side A), (Side B) is how it is now, and looks fine to me. You would prefer (Disc 1), (Disc 2)?

Will do, need to wait for a cable but there's plenty of pal discs to do first.

Thank you for the super quick translations and language clarification. I'll submit the non-world region dumps as Chinese then? Assuming that when some are shown to be released in Japan too, that it then gets changed to Japan region?

BUMP

Again, suggesting a platform independent category for those discs whose main content is video, pdfs etc that can be played on a lot of platforms. Documentation discs that go with ibm-pc games can stay where they are for all I care, but stuff like xbox 360 and ps3 demos do not belong in ibm-pc in my opinion ( http://redump.org/disc/19992/ http://redump.org/disc/19983/ and a ps3 one pending). We have a platform independent dvd category and audio category, so why not data files?

Some of it looks Japanese and some Chinese to me (hell if I know). Will add to db later. Can someone romanise these please (and/or whatever needs to be done for a submission), and say what language each is in for my own benefit.

Should do yes, every blu-ray drive I've tried works. Verify an existing dump and see for yourself.

Use isobuster. The encrypted images may or may not be usable in the future, but they should be what's in the database. If it's true that decrypted ps3 isos are playable on a ps3, hopefully encrypted isos will be eventually too and/or there be a way to convert between encrypted/decrypted isos.

Very easy to dump, and 3 of 3 bd-rom drives I've tried work. The redumps are not usable yet, so while you're at it you may also want to dump the jailbreak way (not for the db, for your collection).

I think there should be a category for documentation discs, and other discs with random files that can be accessed from multiple systems. Discs with stuff like pdfs, avis, docs which in my opinion does not really belong in IBM-PC.  For example the command and conquer tiberium sun documentation disc, which true has a copy of adobe reader, but only to facilitate accessing the pdf files.

Another example (and the reason for this post) is the B side of xbox 360 world discs. Side A is DVD-Video, but side B is just files put on a disc. Volume 100 includes avis, pdfs, jpegs, mp3s etc. There are 2 small windows games in volume 100 but they seem out of place, are just chucked in, nothing to do with the main reason for the disc, and take up 15MB of a 2.75GB image. All the rest can be used from any modern system. Volume 85 side B has no games, just the usual system independent (but xbox related) stuff, and a few screensaver exes.

It doesn't look right at all that an xbox 360 coverdisc should be in ibm-pc.

An extra field describing what system the content deals with or came from would be nice. You can probably guess most of them but not all, and I think it would be nice to differentiate particularly between DVD-videos that come with a game.

If it's a DVD it is easy as pie. If it is a CD, it is still probably easy as pie as odds are there are no audio tracks.

Clutz450 wrote:

I was hoping that there would be a way for me to convert the folder into an ISO and then get the data from it through HashCalc but as we said before it would still be a decrypted ISO.

It's easy enough to replace the encrypted files in the iso with the decrypted files, however editing the iso header to reflect the new contents is a question mark (maybe nulling the hashes works? who knows, there's no iso loader to test it on), and you'd need to dump the disc as both an encrypted iso and decrypted files.

Even if it worked, you'd end up with a decrypted iso which would basically be a tarball to store the decrypted files. If an iso loader ever exists, it would have to be able to decrypt itself, so obtaining a decrypted iso is useful only for compression.

Hopefully one day, given the encrypted iso header and decrypted files (or decrypted iso), it should be possible to encrypt the files and rebuild the encrypted iso (convert from jailbreak to redump when given the encrypted iso header). And given the encrypted iso, be able to spit out the hash table in the header (or encrypted iso header for simplicity) and the decrypted iso.

The seller also mentioned some items could have been sent from a publisher for review, but as these were sold with other items I do not know if he means these in particular or the other items (as the boxes have some sold-out logos I assumed these would not be possible review discs). I have contacted him for more information. There is no specific copyright information on the disc labels either, just a generic one similar to on the box.

I am going through them with protection id xmas beta, the discs and installed files. Will post the results, but no protection found for the first 2 games.

Each game is on a separate cd. Only one of the games is in the database currently, and it's a different dump. The '1' in the titles looks like a volume to me, the numbering of the discs is done in the same style. I think the disc numbering should be in the comments, from the looks of it there are may packs like these.

That's all the info there is, aside from the rings. No idea what the revision means.

Bought second hand. The seller indicates they could have been sold with new computers years ago. The packs are separate, but the games seem to have a sequential numbering system. The games in the right box are numbered 70 to 79, the left numbered 58 to 62. The discs all have similar labels, and there is a single folded slip of paper in both boxes listing the contents.

The right box has some sold out covers on the box showing the games, but I don't think the discs are from sold-out. There is no sold-out splash screen when you run them like with other sold out games I've played.

Software lego suite xp 1 contents:

  • 58. Lego Racers 2

  • 59. Legoland

  • 60. Lego Rock Raiders

  • 61. Lego Island 2

  • 62. Lego Creator Knights Kingdom

Software top 10 games xp 1 contents:

  • 70. Hostile Waters

  • 71. Gunlok

  • 72. OffRoad

  • 73. Space Clash

  • 74. Snooker (Maxx)

  • 75. Snowcross Extreme

  • 76. Warrior Kings

  • 77. Sheep

  • 78. Total Immersion Racing

  • 79. Ford Racing

Any idea what these are from, and where I can get my hands on more like them?

That sounds sensible, thanks.

Hopefully one day soon, I won't require hand-holding  big_smile

I have some psx discs to dump with audio and large negative write offsets. I bought a drive with large offset hoping it could over-read, sadly no. So I need a drive with over-read capability, and either can use the D8 read command, or has a read offset >647. If there is another requirement to be able to dump any psx game, please let me know.

Have searched the site and came up with the obvious choice of a *real* plextor, however I have only found one such drive, and I don't even know if it is *real* (Plextor PX-712UF). Any non-plextor drives that you can confirm use the D8 command (I only found a list of possibles)?

Alternatively, I've narrowed down the accuraterip drive list to these drives (they all have sufficient offset). Which of these can definitely over-read? It needs to be a normal drive (non-slim), preferably IDE:
