"UPX" is shown in IMAGE_SECTION_HEADER of SETUP.EXE. Please check if it is compressed by UPX or not.
If yes, DIC is not supported it yet. 20210401 version does not output IMAGE_EXPORT_DIRECTORY yet.

I do not know how to check if something is compressed with UPX or not.  ?

Also, I've talked to a few people and we are wondering what the purpose of the version checking / displaying is? Especially if it is causing DIC to crash and not complete dumps.

@sarami,

I noticed an issue/bug/etc that started with DIC version 20210601.  When I try to dump certain PC discs, the status reaches "Checking EXE" and crashes immediately and will not dump.

I believe it is something to do with some file checking or version checking that DIC is doing on files on the disc, and I'm not sure why.

On my current example, I see the line:  AUTORUN.EXE: File Version 4, 0, 0, 1 and then Checking EXE     1,
and then it crashes immediately every time.

I tested dumping on DIC 20210401 and it worked perfectly fine and this file/version checking didn't happen.

The crash occurs in both 0601 and 0701.  Please let me know if you need anymore information.  I've attached logs for the unsuccessful dump on 0601.

Woah I had no idea, thanks! Google didn't find me any answers to PS2 DVD-5 games made with 2 layers of data...

It isn't two layers of data.  Just has ringcodes on different levels, afaik.

While it is true that most discs with 2 layers of ringcodes are DVD-9, it isn't always the case.  I know it is uncommon in US discs, but in European PS2 discs, it is pretty common for there to be two layers of codes, but only a DVD-5.

I've thought all the PS2 discs have 2 layers of ringcodes, but one of them is usually hidden under the label for DVD-5 discs? And there were experiments by scratching off the paint from the label side proving that?

SHHHHH!!!! Don't tell people about my horrible experiments! hahahha

We do not store or share actual game data, this is a metadata database.

I do agree that we should ALWAYS be very cautious and sure before doing ANY sorts of mass changes.

I reviewed several dozen wii entries for mould sid codes, and I believe the pattern is ALWAYS followed of V9[letter][number], with exception to the zeroes that are interpreted that way.

For Wii US, I'm inclined to think all V90 should actually become --> V9O.

0 and O in mould codes can sometimes be very difficult to determine, especially depending on the font chosen.  Sometimes there isn't even a clear answer.  I did notice that several of these have other SID codes that are V9P#, so I'm inclined to think they could be O instead of 0, but I can't say with 100% certainty.

If you have any clear pictures of the mould codes in question, feel free to share and I'd be happy to provide an opinion.

I will personally nuke all the dumps made with unofficial/hacked tools, we don't need them. We don't accept the dumps from non-plextor drives, why should we accept dumps from some shady builds?

I just want to add my 2 cents here.  Please be aware of how this comes across.  I understand we have to have certain standards such as the plextor requirement for standard submissions, but there are ALWAYS going to be some special exception cases, or types of discs that can't be dumped via the normal methods.  And if we make a blanket block on any such submission entirely, there will be a lot of content missing.

I'm not sure if that was your intention, but the statement does appear a bit threatening about nuking large batches of content.  I'm going to assume this is not an actual intention.  We certainly wouldn't make a large decision like that without much discussion and hashing out the details.

I think both you and also user7 have made plenty of great contributions to this project over the years.  Let's not let an issue debate cause any actual contention or issues.

Oh, btw...I think his comment about a good build was talking about his computer.  Not a build of DIC.

After some discussion with the user here, acridAxid would like to see if the former account "amerrykan" can be changed to "acridAxid."
