Come to a solution.
The problem is 96 bytes attached to the end of every sector, which I assume is Alcohol attaching the SubChannel data to the disc image. I was nearly ready to write a quick application to chop off these 96 bytes, but I found out if you load the mds/mdf in isobuster and dump it RAW then you will retrieve the 1:1 disc image. No need to keep two files for archival purposes.

Splitting it up into chunks has made this infinitely easier. I've discovered there are 536 to 537 sectors between 213856 and 214392 damaged* by the ring so these are filled with dummy data. One of my attempted reads read the 537th sector, but it didn't pass an ecc/edc check, so not sure if that was a fluke or not yet.
My biggest problem is there are three sectors past the ring that are not passing an ECC/EDC check. Two providing consistent results, but one having two bytes bouncing between two different values.
Because of this and because one of my drives is picking up some extra bytes on a few sectors (unrelated to the previously mentioned three) that breaks the ECC/EDC verification, I'm gonna try getting the disc buffed and attempt these sectors again. I've also purchased a sealed copy off amazon which should get here next week to do comparisons against.

According to this site, Ring PROTECH appeared in 2001 summer. The ring protect before 2001 summer is different by manufacturer. e.g. Bleem! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleem! Perhaps Blue Byte is also same.
You must be right. It's definitely similar enough to ring protect and it was a 1998 release.
So... I got tired of running it over and over and I decided to run it with DIC with c2 checking.

So basically it will recheck errored sectors 9,999 times and hopefully whatever is still remaining will be the actual broken sectors. I don't know if this is the best way to go about it, but it's been running for the last week and it's down to 967 remaining error sectors out of a starting 1700. I ran it about 30 times without error checking and none of my dumps matched so this was my next step and once this finishes I will update on the progress.
After this finishes, I will most likely break the data track up into smaller chunks and compare them between each other.

Unreadable Errors
The topside of CD #1 has been "damaged", a ring (about 1 mm) is clearly visible at about 1/3 of the outside of the CD.GameCopyWorld isn't using the word "Ring PROTECH". If this disc is really Ring PROTECH, GameCopyWorld will also use this word.

Sarami, there is no protect.pro file and there are only two .bin files which do not contain the string allocator.
The protection relies on the file MISSIONS.DAT being corrupted from the ring of damaged sectors?, but it is a unique protection created by Blue Byte.

I'm at a loss. Using the Optiarc with CDM and I'm getting different number of errors every time I run it again.
edit: Got the same number of errors on two different dumps, but different errors and mismatch on CRC.

I've been avoiding my secuROM discs for a while now because of the inability to 1:1 compare the checksums, but I want to jump in and take care of them now. My only concern is that the guide is fairly vague on what a good dump is.
I notice when I dump it in Alcohol 120% that I get an *.mdf and a *.mds file, but the guide says I only need to keep the mds file. Is there a way I can attach the mds descriptor to the iso I dumped with isobuster? Or do I also have to keep the mdf file in my backup?
I've tried hex editing the mdf file and switching the *...m.d.f to *...i.s.o, but this just causes the resulting file to be unmountable.
also this might be a dumb question, but is there any possible way to get an 100% accurate descriptor file or is this just one of those things that our drives can't do 1:1?
edit: this is regarding CD SecuROM. I just dumped a DVD and apparently the mdf & iso I created match checksums and I can hex edit the mds to load it as iso without problems.
edit: So none of my DVDs are dumping properly. I've tried 8x and 1x speeds so far for the mds, but I keep getting error 1000 or unable to find original disc when mounted in alcohol. Is the plextor bad for DPM analysis?
secondedit: Yeah, dumped another mds at 8x on my laptop and it got through copy protection. Not sure what's up with my Plextor.

It is definitely similiar, but I don't think it's the exact same protection. Might have been licensed by the company and alteted since I've only ever heard of it on Settlers III and it's expansions. I'll check for the files tonight, but pretty sure they aren't there.

Ran it three times and I'm unable to get a matching checksum. There is a triangle scratch on the bottom that "might" be the cause, but I'm not sure if this is a result of the ring protect or that. I'll try getting it buffed and maybe buy another copy off ebay if that doesn't work, but I'm not making any progress right now.

I realized I had another disc with ring protect and it was flawless in appearance. I ran it twice in DIC ignoring read errors at 4x speed and I could not create matching images. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

uhm, when I rip on my laptop it's getting 14 errors consecutively on first disc. 11 with my plextor.
Could this be an offset problem? I've got a few more drives with different offsets I can try, but I'm gonna have to hook the systems up.

Disc 3 is flawless from a quick glance and it's also from a brand new/sealed package, but it looks like I'm getting a different number of errors when I try dumping it on my laptop's drive. Errors all near the end, but it does dump. Just sucks not having a second copy to compare it to in the db.

Disc 1 only had 11 errors, but disk 3 has quite a lot and continues throwing errors until it hangs. Should I try a different drive? From what I understand only disc 1 should have errors.
This is Age of Empires III Collectors Edition. Disc reads fine when I'm not trying to rip it.

I can't really tell except there's a visible ring on the label side of the disc and it fails to read at about 60%ish. Should I treat this as a form of SafeDisc copy protection and run CD manipulator?

cdmage is reporting 149,750 corrupted sectors in the data track.
protection ID is also not reporting any protection. This is an early 1996 release for DOS if that info helps
I should point out the disc is in really good shape and I can run it just fine. I've also dumped it several times to verify checksums.

I'm using DiC with a px-760a to dump the disc, but mounting the resulting cue/bin results in some files being inaccessible. I think it has something to do with a large negative offset on the disc?
EAC shows a pregap of 1.98s (150 sectors?) and IsoBuster shows scrambled data 151 sectors behind the second track.
Since an entire track contains 2352 bytes and the scrambled data is only 7.5 rows deep on the sector behind it, I added 120 to -2352 and came up with -2232 byte combined offset.
Does that sound correct? Using px_d8, it's telling me it's only a -892 sector combined offset.

Comparing the hex of the dumps between DIC's and EAC's Track 2, 0x0 - 0x2B10F is the only difference. That's 176400 bytes or 75 sectors of garbage data that DIC has included in it's dump that is empty bytes in EAC's output.
Am I correct to believe EAC is the proper dump? Or could it also be the wrong length as well since it looks like the pregap is wrong?
edit: can I manually alter the pregap information in EAC?

Like the subject asks, Are leading empty bytes in the audio tracks important in determining a 1:1 dump or are the gaps the only important part of determining empty space between tracks?

I'm attempting to dump the Baldur's Gate 2 CE: Bonus CD and I'm running into a snag. I ran it through DIC and PerfectRip on a Plextor 760a and came out with two different checksums for Track 2.
I then later tried the old EAC method on a second computer. I had to disable Overread for the last track, but I ended up with with yet a third checksum for track 2.
Disc is pristine and hardly used. Ran it twice each time as well. There's some weirdness in between the tracks when I look using IsoBuster.
Anyone have any idea what I'm running into? If there's anything I need to provide logwise or datawise let me know.
