Cut Into Fourteen Pieces wrote:There's only one photo of a ring in the wiki, and it's specifically a PS2 disc.
Not sure if I got this right but most photo submissions are made on the Dumps forum. I don't think there's a defined place to host them. If you mean having more photos for reference of what's important, I guess the same subforum can be a good place for information. Basically all the info is helpful, I guess.
I don't think you need special photo equipment for most of it. A top down photo with light slightly at an angle (as to avoid direct reflections) can pull out most of the text in a legible way. Maybe an extra photo for some mould stamped text if it doesn't show up on the first one. Any point n shoot or smartphone will do it.
Personally I think it's worth the extra step and document things right while you have the materials with you. It might be a slight detrack of a more straightforward process but nowadays we have a single click solution for dumping that's incomparable more streamlined than it used to be.
Is there any list of this kind?
Still struggling to get a compatible (listed) Plex drive. Have come to some old CD-Rom ones (e.g., PX-w1210xx (y. 2000): PX-W2410 (y. 2002) but have no clue if these would fit. I'm only interested in CD-Rom based media, mostly PC and a couple of localized PSX discs.
Also, is there a command on DIC or something that tells me if the drive is compatible? Or is DIC based on a sort of internal list, to ID compatible drives?
(sorry if this is a repost, you can del/merge if other similar thread exists. I just didn't want to clutter DICs discussion thread anymore than it is)
I'm having a real hard time finding any of the verified Plextor drives recommended on the DIC Readme.
I've noticed, though, there are two BD drives listed under the CD (media). Can these models dump CDs correctly? Or I'm reading it wrongly and they refer to dumping BD discs (PS4 and XO)?
Ok, guys. Thanks for clearing that out.
In fact, I thought that it could be that way but then I realized that version numbers were always subject to change if an older EXE version popped up, becaming the v1.0 and incrementing the other known versions.
One question, though. In theory could there be a 2.0 version?
This is a rather embarrassing question, since I presume it's solution is right in front of my nose but... I have searched the forums & wiki and haven't found the answer.
So, how can I check which version a given game is, from the original disc or dump? For PS2 games, SYSTEM.CNF has a "version" field. But I can't find it in PSX CD games.
True. I had a harsh time figuring things out. I started from 0 and my most difficulty was to gather all the technical info and jargon, which is scattered throughout the guide and forum threads. It just needs to be recompiled in one place. I know there used to be a wiki at times but IMO a friendly, even superficial but detailed enough for a kickstart, will suffice.
I've been thinking about that lately, but my english & technical skills aren't good enough.
Still, I'm willing to contribute by giving some sugestions, by newbie proof-reading and by translating to Portuguese. Maybe Spanish and French (if the latest isn't too much rusty). And korean, but I don't think there's much interest in it (plus I hardly know the basis )
Btw, nice tips, usurper. I started to notice a pattern for cds and dvds but didn't knew what they meant. Good to learn something new!
I've noticed the Netherlands flag ico (region section) and the Dutch flag ico (language selection), in the New Disc menu and all over the database dumps mismatch.
Have a look:
Netherlands:
Dutch:
Side by Side
At the first sight it seems only a color issue (dutch icon colors seems a bit washed out, compared to the more vibrant ones on the Netherlands ico ones), but it seems to me the dutch ico corresponds to Luxembourg.
Wiki wrote:History
The colours of the flag of Luxembourg were first adopted around 1830 during the Belgian Revolution. They were probably derived from the counts, dukes and later grand-dukes of Luxembourg's coat of arms which in turn was derived from the combination of the dukes of Limbourg's Lion and the supposed striped banner of the early counts of Luxembourg. The three-colored horizontal design was fixed on June 12, 1845.
It took until June 23, 1972 before a law was passed regulating the flag of Luxembourg. The same law also prescribed ensign and roundel for aircraft and ships registered in Luxembourg flag, instead.
One important clarification brought by this law was that the color blue was defined as being a very bright blue, in contrast to the flag of the Netherlands (exactly the same design, but the Dutch flag uses dark blue and a less oblong shape).

Wiki wrote:The flag of Luxembourg bears a close resemblance, but, in spite of the historic personal union of the King of the Netherlands and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg until 1890, the similarity is accidental and does not stem from a common origin. The colours of the Luxembourg flag, are probably derived from the Grand Duke's coat of arms, and in particular the blue is much lighter.

I guess...
Just for fun, can we have more statistics? Like dumps per system, first dumps, verified & unverified, etc? I presume it can onl be done if Admin provides db data, or is there a feature for getting it (like using some filters in search?)
I always thought that those discs were impossible to properly burn/copy because they're pressed (at the factory, just like some content on a regular ps2 dvd, which isn't readable -- i might be saying a lot of shit, all i know is what've read here and there).
If those discs can be dumped, even though they're no interest to the Redump project, please let me know of a preservation-proof method. I have SM3.xx Pal and a Memorex (can't recall the version, but I believe it's from Codebreakers).
I haven't tried to dump with any tools in the Redump Guide, but back in the days I haven't had any success using dvd decripter, imgburn and anydvd (those were my tools, back then).
