I'm not familiar with Smarte protection.

I only found that cds are protected similary to safedisc cds (with intentional errors) http://forum.redump.org/topic/7625/adde … f-nations/ , http://forum.redump.org/topic/10020/ibm … ddvdcheck/ .

But I have DVD with this protection. I have dumped "Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends" using two different systems/drives/programs (isobuster, clonecd) and hashes are always the same. Is it safe to assume that this is correct or do I need dump it differently?

ps. I'm not even sure if it (Smarte) do anything, because I installed and played a game from a dumped image just fine without any problems.

I think not, unless it's for special circumstances, like old video cards and sound cards which came bundled with games/demos on the driver discs, goes for joysticks/pads/wheels/flight sticks/other also. How old? I'm talking like Voodoo/Verite/Virge/S3/Matrox etc era. All modern stuff can be downloaded for free, some of the older hardware is not so easy to find. Surely not generic hardware like modems, printers and motherboards...

It's a shame because i thought that everything dumpable should be preserved.

i think the xbox360 disc could be dumped, it was most probably bundled with some periphery or eventually game bundled with hardware, dunno really

p.s. i do have the v1.2 in my own)

This xbox360 disc was bundled with xbox360 pad for pc. It has drivers/software for a wireless game controllers.

Personally I think everything should be preserved if possible.  Game Discs/Demo Discs/Audio Discs/DVD Discs/Application Discs/Driver Discs/etc; everything officially released as long as the relevant info for it is cataloged with the hashs.  Obviously they'd need their own category or even section if you wish; EDIT: because they wouldn't be for everyone, and most would probably ignore wink.

I have exactly the same point of view.

But I think I will stick with games/demos/coverdiscs for now until someone decide otherwise.

btw. I found this topic: http://forum.redump.org/topic/7043/new-categories/

Maybe it's a silly question but as we have in PC database some discs with aplications, should we also preserve discs with various drivers and utillities (bundled with hardware) ?

Great. Thank you very much.

Hi

I have a question about dumping games on DVD with SafeDisc (4.85.000) protection. I dumped it same way like a unprotected disc and I used two different systems/drives and different software (isobuster and clonecd) and I have always same results (same hashes). Is it safe to assume that dump is correct or is it another method to dump dvd's with SafeDisc?

Hello,

I found a little issue in the recent datfile: IBM - PC compatible (20110702 01-54-31):

    <game name="Code of Honor 2 - ?a?cuch krytyczny (Poland)">
        <category>Games</category>
        <description>Code of Honor 2 - ?a?cuch krytyczny (Poland)</description>
        <rom name="Code of Honor 2 - ?a?cuch krytyczny (Poland).iso" size="2448916480" crc="91fbb7bf" md5="01b94d2ddf003f3df360949f45eeb4db" sha1="00d0afd2743dde3d3406a35bcf68dfb7c17af5ce"/>
    </game>

It miss all the polish letters and clrmame rebuild it to : Code of Honor 2 - -a-cuch krytyczny (Poland)

It should be: Code of Honor 2: Łańcuch krytyczny. http://redump.org/disc/19911/  (take a look at attached photo)

If clrmame doesn't handle polish letters then maybe the better is to change that (in datfile) to : Code of Honor 2: Lancuch krytyczny (It's not correct but I think it's always better than Code of Honor 2: ?a?cuch krytyczny).
