Sorry for the multiple threads. I'm trying to keep the info organized into topics. Maybe I should start one big "I'm an idiot" megathread.

According to the dumping guide "To be able to detect all offsets, most dumpers in our project bought a cheap CDRW drive with a large read offset, such as the Sony CRX-100E or 120E."

So... when I run into a disc with a big factory offset like I am with Mad Dog McCree for Sega CD which has a factory offset of, by my calculations, -298 or theoretically run into something way off that has a factory write offset of +1000 or more does that mean I'm going to have trouble getting a perfect rip if the data backs up into the lead in or runs all the way up to the lead out area?

Should offset detection and ripping with a Plextor Plexwriter Premium be of any concern to me if I'm using the px_d8 utility to detect combined offsets? Has it been proven to be pretty reliable?

So I have a copy of IBM CD-ROM Star Wars: Rebel Assault that differs from the version found here http://redump.org/disc/10370/

I have ripped this with four different burners now with all showing the same MD5, SHA1, and MD5 that differ from the ones currently in the database. Leaving only two options, the one in the database is incorrect OR what I think is the more obvious answer I have a different version especially considering my ring code reads CDRM-1151470 1 and has no IFPI number.

I have a hex editor and have looked at the .exe files for clues with no luck.

Thx.

So, I assume, the additional offset would be a factory offset or mastering error?

That puts Mad Dog McCree at -298. Which seems WAY off.

That game has to be the worst mastering job ever. The exe date in the header and the exe date reported by the actual file are a year apart. Same date, different year. Which I can only attribute to human error.

I'm not sure if this is accurate behavior or not.

I am preparing to archive my collection of every USA Sega CD release and obviously am looking to do it in the most accurate way possible. I even purchased a new Plextor Plexwriter Premium for this purpose.

After going through Rocknroms stickied MegaCD/Saturn guide I'm left with an issue...

Ground Zero Texas: I run the px_d8 tool and come back with a combined offset of +30. A number that matches the AccurateRip offset DB.

Mickey Mania: I run the px_d8 tool and it reports a combined offset of +32.

What's the issue here? Should I be running the px_d8 tool with each new disc I rip? Seems to me that the offset should be something that's constant.

I really don't want to continue without really nailing down a process for what I'm doing.
