Covers are nothing - publishers make them, not the game designers, publishers have no relation to the game itself at all, the game is just a merchandise for them, so they can write ANYTHING on covers. So you should rely on the title screen only, because it contains the real title by the real game designers, not by some strangers.

While a publisher may control the fine tuning, or even have complete control over cover design, I would be amazed if a publisher ever came up with the name on a spine card because it is tied to copyright and Sony licensing legalities and thus is strictly controlled. The artists who make title screens are usually just employees who may or may not have anything to do with the game's final true name. I think 'Super Vehicle-001' on Metal SlugX's title screen is a leftover from the Japanese version's name which the localizer's didn't bother to remove. I don't think it's actually part of its official name. You find that sort of thing regularly in games localized from Japan. I mean, if the title screen has some long winded thing like 'based on the new hit movie by the award winning director Steven Spielberg' should it be tacked onto the name as an official part of the title?

You'd think that if it was actually part of the game's name that was stripped off the cover by a publisher, it would at least be mentioned on the developer's product page.

In this case, the game is universally know as Metal Slug X (Super Vehicle-001 is the subtitle of the very first Metal Slug and it was left there for sheer laziness by the developer). The "X" should really be there, omitting it would only create confusion, because the game, well, IS Metal Slux X.

Well, it's not my database, but personally I think it's crazy to use the name on the 'title screen'. People just call them 'title screens'; they don't actually have to have the title on them. Game maker's/localizer's can put any junk they want on the 'title screen'.  It's called Metal Slug X on the disk, cover, spine, the maker's website, gameFAQ.com, and in the rear art's copyright notice and I've never heard anyone call it 'Super Vehicle-001' so why call it that in the database?
