Thanks to Nexy, I was able to detect the SafeDisc version on my new Commandos dump. It's SafeDisc 1.01.043. Please add this to the comments section Also, if you haven't seen it yet, I posted about the unusual error sectors range of that disc in your SafeDisc topic in the General discussions section.

Thanks, Jackal, you're the best

No, my other Commandos dump doesn't use SafeDisc (and has 0 errors). Probably because it's part of a compilation, and has been released more than a year after the original. Anyway, here are the volume serial numbers:

Play the Games edition: 702D-8568
Original edition: 4BD7-8FB2

Now that you also added my latest dumps, I see two minor mistakes I made when submitting them:

Kreuzworträtsel-Generator is actually more of an application than a game. The title translates to "crossword puzzle generator", and that's basically what it is ^^ So please change the category if you agree.

Furthermore, please change Alexander der Große: Die großen Schlachten der Antike to "Alexander der Grosse: Die grossen Schlachten der Antike" in the main title. The "ß" is known to make some problems e.g. with PakkISO. You can still put the original title with the "ß"s in the alternative title field.

Thanks a lot

Okay, re-checked all my questionable discs. Time for some conclusions...

SafeDisc seems to extract fine. All my drives seem to detect the errors reliably, both in CloneCD and ddump. Still, one of the ddump dumps was missing the last sector (see post #8). I don't know how or why that happened since I definitely didn't touch the dump manually.

Simple erroneous sectors without any further protection scheme (at least to my knowledge) give mixed results. Sometimes a sector is overwritten with 55s, sometimes not. That happens with ddump (with and without log, no switches) and CloneCD on all my drives. I'm not sure if I can trust a dump that matches 5 of 8 times on only one of my drives...

Finally, LaserLock seems to give completely random results. In ~8 passes on 4 different drives, the checksums came out different each time. Maybe others have been luckier with that protection, but I couldn't get a good dump yet on the LaserLock discs I tried.

Additionally, I tested that weird protection whose name I forgot... The one with 4 tracks: DATA, AUDIO, AUDIO, DATA (unreadable). My drive locked up when I tried to detect the gaps, and I had to restart the whole computer because the eject button didn't respond anymore even after closing EAC. Does anyone have any idea how to go about dumping discs with that protection?

-----------------------------

Now to sum up the fixes for my data, to make Jackal's life a bit easier

1) Theme Park World (previously underdumped):

Size: 779.278.752 Bytes
CRC: 5058015e
MD5: 3c6590e438b3134e9208b407cc970d33
SHA1: 85d0d799293c1134372e5b90f6451dbdfe17f77f

2) Baldurs Gate: Thron des Bhaal

Sorry, this is a bad dump, it has to be removed. Unless someone can tell me how to get around the problems I have with LaserLock, I won't be able to supply a proper dump

3) Das Geheimnis der Druiden (CD der Installation)

This one's up to you. I couldn't get matches on other drives so far, only my GH20NS10 gave me that checksum about 5 of 8 times, both with CloneCD and ddump. Remove it if you think it's too unsure, or leave it there if you wish

The next mismatch: Baldurs Gate: Thron des Bhaal. With CloneCD I only tried once on each drive so far, with DDump several times but only on my one compatible drive. Here's what I got:

CloneCD:
LG GH20NS10: 212 errors, CRC: ceb1eca9
LG GDR-8164B: 161 errors, CRC: cff80d68
Samsung SH162D: 162 errors, CRC: 33ce465b

DDump (no parameters):
LG GH20NS10, 1st pass: 235 errors, CRC: c47a526d
LG GH20NS10, 2nd pass w/ 1st pass log: 241 errors, CRC: e5774985
LG GH20NS10, 3rd pass w/ 1st pass log: 248 errors, CRC: 342af6bb

Speaks for itself. I trust none of these values, especially not the DB dump. I think it should be hidden or deleted for now...

God, I really need a break

(edited)

Okay, the disc from my initial post ("Das Geheimnis des Druiden (CD der Installation)") matches as well when dumped with CloneCD on that drive (LG GH20NS10, which I've been using for that disc so far).

My LG 8164b however gave me different checksums (of course...) with a whopping 4369 errors both in the CloneCD log and CDMage, as opposed to the GH20NS10's 3024 errors. The errors are in the same range (~2300 - ~10000), the LG 8164b just seems to catch more of them. I've re-checked Theme Park World, and it almost matches (tried independently with 2 drives via CloneCD). For some reason however it's underdumped by one sector So the correct data for this dump is:

Size: 779.278.752 Bytes
CRC: 5058015e
MD5: 3c6590e438b3134e9208b407cc970d33
SHA1: 85d0d799293c1134372e5b90f6451dbdfe17f77f

Don't ask me how this could happen...

Thanks for the answer. Yes, in this case the error count is the same. The disc I was talking about in my first post however had 10 CDMage errors more than ddump errors (still, I about 5 out of 8 passes had matching checksums). So I can assume it's bad then, can't I?

I'm currently trying CloneCD (2nd pass currently... if only I didn't have power outages all the time...). It has the big advantage that it also works on my IDE -> USB connector, so I can use a different drive to verify. The first CloneCD dump doesn't match any of the ddump dumps, but if it mathces the 2nd CloneCD pass, that's likely a correct dump then, isn't it?
